XR Competition and Out-of-competition revealed!
The clock is ticking, and the 7th edition of the NewImages Festival – the Forum des images’ unmissable showcase for digital creation and virtual worlds – opens its doors in less than a month, from April 24 to 28!
We’re excited to reveal the works selected for the XR Competition and the Out-of-competition!
With some 130 international entries received, the festival underscores the incredible diversity and creativity of the industry. The 15 projects selected for the XR Competition illustrate the ability of artists to explore and push back the boundaries of what we know today in terms of immersive creation, offering hybrid narratives and novel experiences.
This year’s edition also focuses on Heritage through an Out-of-competition selection that fully embraces XR’s ability to revitalize and reinvent our cultural heritage. Highlighting documentary and narrative works that make use of mixed reality and multi-user environments, this selection proposes a profound reflection on the preservation and transmission of heritage.
XR Competition entries selected for the 7th NewImages Festival
The official competition will highlight 15 immersive experiences selected from among the best virtual, augmented and mixed reality proposals. Presented at Châtelet Les Halles and more specifically at La Place, as well as on levels 0 and -1 of the Forum des Halles Canopée, these works rival each other in originality and testify to the richness of today’s XR formats. From French premieres to international premieres, the works come from the four corners of the globe, including the USA, Argentina, Taiwan, Denmark and, of course, France.

Out-of-competition: Celebrating Heritage through XR
This Heritage theme echoes the Industry Days discussions under the heading “Immersive Museum“, creating a dialogue between current heritage exhibitions and immersive experiences. It’s an opportunity for cultural players to enrich their programming, and for immersive creators to find new avenues of dissemination.
