Julie Bertuccelli

After studying philosophy Julie Bertuccelli spent ten years working as assistant director on a number of feature films, TV movies, and short films (O. Iosseliani, R. Panh, K. Kieslowsky, E. Finkiel, B. Tavernier, J.-L. Bertuccelli, C. de Chalonge, R. Féret, P. Etaix…) Following an initiation to documentary filmmaking in 1993 at Ateliers Varan, she went on to direct around fifteen documentaries for Arte, France and France 5. Her first feature-length fiction “Since Otar left…” (2002) was rewarded with around twenty prizes in France and abroad including the International Critics’ Week award at the Cannes Festival in 2003. Her documentary “School of Babel” released in theaters in march 2014 was selected in a number of festivals.

Her latest feature-length fiction “Claire Darling” with Catherine Deneuve and Chiara Mastroianni was released in theatres in February 2019 and sold in around thirty countries.

Julie Bertuccelli heads the new Documentary Cinémathèque she has initiated, after serving as president of the SCAM, (she was the first woman elected to this position) from 2013 to 2015 and from 2017 to 2019. She was co-president of the ARP, the civil society of Authors-Directors-Producers of cinema, in 2016.
